Why it stands out
The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu stands out as the final year of the eighth-generation car, and it benefits from the improvements Chevrolet had already made to this design. It was a more polished and comfortable midsize sedan than the Malibu it replaced, with a nicer interior and better overall refinement, even if it still did not quite match the class leaders. Buyers also got a roomy cabin, and the car’s styling and feature set made it a more appealing used choice than many earlier Malibus.
For 2015, the Malibu offered a choice of trims and powertrains, including the Malibu Eco, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. The Eco paired eAssist technology with a 2.4-litre engine and produced 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5-litre engine was the one most buyers chose. The 2.0-litre turbo was reserved for the top 2LT/3LT and LTZ trims and made 259 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Inside, the upper trims had a seven-inch radio display that flipped up to reveal a storage cubby, and the MyLink system offered navigation. Available safety equipment included lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
As a used car, the 2015 Malibu’s appeal is helped by its relatively strong reliability record compared with earlier Malibus, though it is not trouble-free. Some owners report issues with the fuel level sensor, wheel bearings, the stop/start system, power steering, and ignition key hardware. Even so, it remains attractive for shoppers who want a comfortable, good-looking family sedan with useful space and a broader feature set than many of its predecessors.

This 2015 was a nice upgrade from my 2010 Malibu. Don’t get me wrong, my 2010 was one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned but after owning it for seven years, it was time for something newer. I drove my 2015 home and on the 2 1/2 drive I was really happy with the gas mileage and handling. The upgraded features are really nice, too.
