CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Toyota Corolla
overall

Summary
With 160 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,859 CAD, 25.6% of 2014 Toyota Corolla listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Corolla 4.3 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Corolla stands out as a compact car that focuses on practical daily motoring rather than flash. It is described as fuel-efficient and reliable, with a package that is meant to serve as an affordable, compact commuter for the long haul. The model year 2014 also marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, which helps explain why this version feels like a fresh chapter for the nameplate while still staying true to its core mission.
What makes this Corolla distinctive is how well its modest hardware is tuned for efficiency. The engine produces 132 horsepower, and the mapping of the CVT is said to work well to get the most out of the fuel-sipping four-cylinder. That combination should appeal to buyers who value low running costs and easy everyday use more than outright performance. At the same time, the car’s strengths come with familiar compact-car trade-offs: it is not the prettiest in the segment, and some drivers may find it small for families and short on power, especially when carrying multiple passengers.

Nice vehicle. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the touch screen stereo is broken. That’s about the only thing I didnt test during the test drive.

This car is an excellent value! The only downside to the car is that it had over 90000 miles on it; however, Toyotas have the reputation if cared/maintained for properly they keep going to way over 200000 miles!

Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla a good car?

That said, some owners note that it can feel small for families and short on power.
With its focus on efficient daily motoring and long-haul practicality, it makes the most sense if you want a low-stress commuter rather than something flashy. 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla reliable?
Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as reliable, low maintenance, and a great value for both commuting and long drives. The expert assessment also calls it tremendously reliable and a smart buy, with the engine and CVT tuning working well for fuel-sipping daily use.
Toyota’s reputation for near-bulletproof dependability is reinforced here by the car’s practical design and efficient hardware. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about whether you can live with its modest power and compact cabin.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base CE is the simplest version, while the S adds a sportier front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport buckets. The LE Eco is tuned for efficiency, but the content suggests its extra cost may not be worth the trade-offs.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder with 132 hp in most trims, paired with either a manual, a four-speed automatic in the CE, or a CVT in most other versions. The S adds Sport mode and manual shift capability with paddle shifters.
- Safety package: All trims come with Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. Standard safety equipment also includes eight airbags, crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
- Infotainment: All trims include LED headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB auxiliary port. Higher trims add hands-free voice controls, and Entune is available as Toyota’s app-based infotainment suite.
- Fuel efficiency: The manual transmission is rated at 7.1 L/100 km city and 5.2 highway. The CE automatic uses 7.4 city and 5.4 highway, while the S and LE with the CVT use 6.8 city and 4.9 highway. The LE Eco is rated at 6.5 city and 4.6 highway.
Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: CE, S, LE, LE Eco.
Here's the short version:
- CE: This is the most affordable entry point, and it gives you the Corolla’s core strengths without extra frills. It suits you best if you want basic, dependable commuting and are comfortable with the simplest equipment.
- S: This is the best-value choice if you want a little more personality. It adds the sportier appearance, upgraded cabin touches, and CVT features like Sport mode and manual shift control.
- LE: This is the trim to consider if you want a more comfort-oriented daily driver with the CVT and the Corolla’s standard efficiency and convenience features.
- LE Eco: This trim is aimed at efficiency-first shoppers, but the content suggests the fuel-economy gains are not compelling enough to justify the extra cost for most buyers.
All trims include Toyota’s Star Safety System, so you do not need to move up the range to get the core safety package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 170 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.15% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $11,759 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $11,877 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,219 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect a more value-conscious market rather than a strong appreciation story. Even so, the Corolla’s reputation for reliability and low ownership costs should continue to support steady demand.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla safe?
The 2014 Toyota Corolla earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
All trims come with Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. Standard passive safety equipment includes eight airbags, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.15% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation, with a fresh chapter for the nameplate.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,531 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,877 CAD average.
- It adds a more enjoyable everyday-driving character while staying practical and reliable.
The bottom line: The 2014 is the better pick if you want the lower price and strong value story. If you can spend a bit more, the 2015 may appeal if you want a slightly more engaging take on the same dependable formula.
How does the 2014 Toyota Corolla compare to the 2014 Honda Civic?
Our experts score the 2014 Toyota Corolla 8/10 and the 2014 Honda Civic 8.2/10.
The Corolla leans harder into reliability, low running costs, and straightforward daily commuting, while the Civic edges ahead on expert score and horsepower. The Corolla also has the stronger deal share, but the Civic offers more listings and a slightly lower average used price. If you want the more value-focused, efficiency-first choice, the Corolla makes sense; if you want a bit more power and a broader shopping pool, the Civic has the edge.
