Do you love being different? Do you have caviar taste but Long John Silvers budget? Do you want to turn heads everywhere you go? Well a Jaguar XKR might be the car for you! I have known about these cars for a long time and I finally was able to purchase one. 510+ HP, over 400 pounds of face melting torque, and all the luxury you could ever want in a car. The car sounds amazing, runs like a scalded cat, and you just feel invincible when you drive it. That being said, there are some downside to it. One, every one of these is hand built so every car is different and some may have tons of problems and some may drive 300k miles without a hiccup. So do your due diligence, do not buy a XKR without a good service history, a higher mileage version may not be a bad option as most issues may have been ironed out. Two, finding a good mechanic to service the car. If you are handy and can find the parts, this is a great car for you. Otherwise you better have a good independent Jag Mechanic around to help you out with the car. Why independent? Because Jaguar dealerships in my experience are not allowed to work on any Jaguars older than 10 years! Known issues with the 5.0 XKRs is the water pumps, coolant hoses, electrical gremlins, and timing chain. The car must be driven regularly or your hoses, especially the ones under the supercharger will degrade and leak. Finally, the car battery has to be AGM and it needs to be on a battery tender when its parked for more than a few days. Those batteries are very expensive and the Jag never truly turns off so you need to have a tender ready to go. If none of that scares you, congratulations, you are looking at a very special car. If it does scare you then go buy a Mustang like everyone else.
