(3 reviews)Good, roomy all around family car with good looks and handling. Large trunk but small opening. Fold down rear seats help for long items. I have low miles and didn't have any problems. Poor gas milage. Car should have more sound proofing.
This is our fifth Volvo, and it is by far our best yet. I mean we had the bullet-proof 850 GLT, so that's saying something. I love how this car looks, inside and out. It's a great example of contemporary Scandinavian design in all accounts. On the highway, it's unbeatable. The gas mileage, the comfort, the safety, et cetera. I'm a sports sedan person, so this car to me is underpowered and floaty, along with being touchy in regards to steering and brakes. But it is the best of what it is, a luxury executive sedan. I never feel uncomfortable in this car, and I never worry when I'm driving or when someone else has the car about safety. If I ever want to go on a long trip, this is the car to take. Kudos, Volvo!
Handling: Excellent when driving, although parking it is awkward. Build quality: It's too quiet. I can't hear if the engine's running or not, and it was a diesel! Exterior looks good. The front looks a bit better than the previous generation S80, but at the rear, only the tail lights remind you it's a Volvo. The rest of its arse looks like that of a ricer. Side view is the same elegant one as of earlier models. Interior reminds me of a Chesterfield saloon, with a Bang & Olufsen stereo. The seats are extremely comfy and electrically adjustable. Why go to IKEA for Swedish furniture, when you can go to your Volvo dealer's spare parts shop instead? "I'll take three driver seats and two rear seats for the S80, please. No, just put'em in the back of me Transit. It's for me house." Furthermore, the stereo has an aux input (unfortunately not iPod-specific, so use the headphone jack), and there's a diesel-powered cabin heater, for when you just missed the ferry boat at night, and the next one leaves in 1 hour and 59 minutes. Does cost a bob or two to rent (I got it for the price of a Golf, but don't tell anyone. Sssshhh…), but drank hardly any fuel. Remember to turn off the air conditioning when you don't need it, though. You'll quickly notice that it consumes a lot more fuel than the engine does. Fun to drive, yes. The automatic gearbox adapted to my driving gradually during eight hours of road trip. When I felt like it, I could manually override.
