Performance: When tuned up properly and serviced regularly, even tho' it's only a "low pressure" Turbo, it ROCKS! Build Quality: What you would expect from the "entry level" of the Volvo line...it tries hard to look more upscale than it is, and pulls it off....nice fake wood! Apperance: love the fact it looks like a "generic (read "boring") family wagon.....that will just eat up boy racer types for dinner! Cost of ownership: Premium gasoline only is the biggest drawback, but then again, the cost of having the turbo pulled and cleaned on a regular basis if you run it on regular octane is more expensive in the long run. Fun Factor: a definite "10"...comfy when you need it to be, nippy when you want it to be..with room for the whole family and a bunch of gear too...nice enough for the coutry club, but not out of place country camping. *EXTRA INFO: A few little quirks and issues: After 9 years of rough daily use, push buttons seem to stick a bit (Trunk latch, locks, hazards, winter-mode button), but probably not too bad for a car that only gets washed and cleaned 2 times a year. Biggest fault...the cup under the springs on the rear coil overs could do with a few extra drainage holes...they tend to collect all that nasty Canadian road salt spray and rust out the bottom of the springs....Changed tham twice in the last 6 years. (maybe its a hint to wash the car more!)

Performance is great and can get better if you spend some euros. Exterior is nothing special, but that is just a good thing. You won't get the wrong kind attention... Overall this is a fun car to drive and it has sleeper potential.

Lots of turbo lag at low rpms. Confort in driver seat is les than desireable, all the others are perfect. Only seats two adults in back, but what do you expect from a entry level sedan wagon. But once it reaches the 3 thousand rpm range watch out it can hold its own. My other car is a s60T. No where near as smooth as the larger of the two. Nice leather few hard plastics, tries to act like a luxury but just cant make it. Love the car reliable after 120,000 miles. Make shure u keep fluids fresh trust me. Ride is rough on dirt dont even try. Love it all in all perfect city and highway vehicle, for a couple or a family with one kid. Sorry to keep ranting. I could go on for days.

Performance: Very good acceleration, braking, and handling. Turbo 4 cylinder 170 hp, 200 ftp torque. 4 wheel disc w/ABS. Tight suspension, not your typical grocery getting wagon. Build quality: Man I have spent a lot of money keeping this car in one piece. Exhaust overhaul, turbo return, brake master cylinder, ignition coils. This on top of the premium you pay for Volvo parts which so far hasn't been an experience I will put up with again. When it is fixed it is solid as a rock. Until it needs to get fixed again. Appearance: Not a box like the old Volvo's, but not the best looking car either. It is a unique "black cherry" in colour (I've only seen one.) Interior was a selling point (sandy leather, two-tone interior, faux wood accents). Cost of ownership: Paid $15000 for the car, have since put in over $5000 in repairs above and beyond normal scheduled maintenance. It is good on gas, as it is a 4 cylinder turbo, but it needs 91 octane so you pay an extra $5 or so at the tank. Fun Factor: When it is working well, I enjoy it. It handles very well, much like my old GTI, has a turbo engine that performs well. I miss my standard, but it is nice that it has a 5 speed automatic, not the typical 4 speed clunker. The stereo although getting dated has the best speakers of any car that I have ever owned. Overall I wouldn't recommend owning a Volvo to anyone else. I bought it for it's reputation for quality, but it ended up being no better than any other car I have owned. Volvo Canada treated me poorly when I voiced my concerns, basically didn't care at all. Since Ford took over Volvo, I think the integrity and service of the name has dropped significantly. They used to be as solid as a "brick". My V40 is not.

Bought this car to help make the yearly trek between school and home a lot easier (500 miles with a bedroom's worth of stuff). Thought it was an ok deal until I found out that the speakers were busted, fuses weren't working and had a cheap touch up job on the paint. But after a few quick repairs and after I install the new stereo and speakers I bought, my baby should be more than amazing. I really do love the color, and it's a rare model so I don't see too many of them on the road. Gas mileage is decent as it does have a turbo (accelerates really well). It's got one of the smoothest rides I have felt in a car this small and you can't hate the tight suspension that hugs the curves. It's really fun to drive this car through traffic and to let its turbo do the work at a stop light.
