Used 2001 Jaguar XJ-Series XJ8 RWD for Sale near Pointe-Claire, QC
4.4 Overall rating
(3 reviews)This is a 150 MPH autobahn killer lets not beat about the bush. Available with 2 engines in the UK there is a 3.2 and a 4 litre V8. The 4 litre is the clear choice, 0-60 appears in a rapid 6 and a bit seconds and tops out at 150MPH. The 4 litre has very similar MPg to the 3.2. There is no wind noise or road noise even at 120-130 MPH. If you have a motorway commute this is the car for you. Remember new these cars were £45,000 to £55,000 (1998-2003 production run) so you can expect parts and servicing to cost a little more than a ford etc. Converted to gas, like mine is these are a very viable car.
This is the last of the lower XJ series and has a more purposeful and balanced look than the later version. Everything just works quietly, whether it is in a slow queue or cruising at 120+ on a motorway, which means you get in at one end and get out at the other quite relaxed. When it's clean you can park it next to anything with pride if you don't mind being a little dated in others' eyes.
I bought this model as it really looks like the lst of the Traditional XJ's.. Don't get me wrong, the X350 is a cracking car, and yes, I'll get one eventually.. But the styling of the X300-X308 is the last of the 'long low' saloons... So far (6 weeks) I like her a lot... Niggling quality issues over the build quality compared to my BWM 728i are glaringly obvious, and it is safe to say that although I love the ride and handling, there is no denying that the 'basic architecture' of this car is heavily revised XJ40 from 1986... A couple of interesting faults have occurred.. Drivers seat suddenly has no power, but memory module if fine, as steering wheel height and dor mirror memory works fine.. And the car diagnostic system has decided that a 2001 car done 58000 miles seems to need 2 new catalytic converters.. Which my mecahanic disputes, as it has just passed it's emissions test...?! Anyway, It is beautiful, comfortable in a 'snug and cosseting' in a way the 728i never was.. Has character like the BMW never had, and the V8 and 5 speed auto are wonderful..Have also had 28.8 mpg which is excellent.. Am I happy with her.. Ultimately yes, but the BMW 728i was efficient (if clinical) and nothing serious broke or acted up.. Time will tell if the love affair lasts.....
