(51 reviews)Excellent truck. Didn't really have any major break downs with it, did put oil cooler lines on it though, and a set of tires in the three years I owned it. other than that, just oil and filters, routine maintenence stuff, ran into trouble when ordering a tranny filter for it though. needed to know if it was a shallow pan or deep pan. Figured I got about 17-18 miles to the gallon.
Great truck on and off road. Especially off road! Easy modifications give the truck lot's of power and OK on the gas milage. Well balanced for hill climbing and great stability while air born. Suspension very durable and frame exceptionally strong. 4 wheel anit-lock disc brakes can stop the truck going 45 mph in less distance than a Las Vegas intersection. Wish that it came in leather. Also wish the extended cab had room for a child seat. We would have kept it if it did : (.
I am very impressed with the Extreme I would buy another one any day. My wife says she wants me to build her one so that is saying something. But of course she wants one for the fuel Mileage.26+ MPG and Very Reliable truck.
Interior layout and ergonomics are well thought out and tastefull, very rigid frame so truck handles as well as most sports cars, exterior styling is very attractive with suttle attention to detail. Other than the lack of brute power under the hood, my overall impression is quite impressed!
Im currently on my 7th S10, its a 1999 ZR2 AUTO 4.3. Of course this one is barely stock but it has been good, chassis+block has over 200k, a lot of bSic electronics remain. I built the Transfer case but all the vacuum and driven electronics are 23yrs old. Just did the first water pump(upgraded to rebuild able billet impeller cts-v model) but other than a hundred coils/icms and a handful of small sensors here and there its been good. My last ls rwd was lifted in 35s but bone stock and had 300k when I gave it to my nephew. Ive had a couple xtreme w/both nv1500,3500+4l60s in 2.2 and 4.3 ALL great trucks. The 4.3 has its quirks but is an absolute WORKHORSE. Upgrade cooling and help it breath cleaner air(lose a few MOG but delete egr) and theyll last forever. A few guys on the forum have hit 500k on original engine (replaced or rebuilt trans) but even rebuild trans shipped nationwide less than 1k from b1trabsmission , local for 600. So theyre unstoppable in my book
