(11 reviews)My first experience with the LeBaron Convertible was a 93 model rental car that I drove for about six months. Loved everything about the car. More recently, in 2005 I came across a 1992 that had been a "summer car" up here in Michigan and was very low mileage for its age. I purchased it, and immediately had to invest additional funds to replace items that had deteriorated prematurely due to long term storage. We use the car as a daily driver and have used it on long trips down to Tennessee and Alabama. I plan on driving it to California later this summer. This model has a good strong 3.0 liter motor, but the transmission was weak. I rebuilt the tranny 3 years ago and had it upgraded at that time. NO further complaints. The car still gets a lot of second looks and the occasional offer to "take it off my hands". Had to replace the top last year, (it lasted seventeen years) but found local shops wanting big bucks (lowest estimate was $1600.00. Finally bought a kit from a company in Pennsylvania, and spent about four Saturdays installing and stretching the new top. Looks just like the original and made the entire car look like new! While this is my oldest vehicle, I plan to keep it and keep on driving it for as many years as I can. Fun to own, fun to drive and pretty darn economical!
This vehicle had 120k miles when purchased. Equipped with a V-6 3.0 liter Mitsubishi engne coupled to a 4 speed auto. Generated 120 hp. Front wheel drive, very stable vehicle, dependable build. Had slight problems, but perfect body. Had locking center lug to hold on the multi-spoked hubcap.
I continue to love the Chrysler convertibles and look forward to my next one, an inexpensive way to get a convertible in your life, paid $5000 in 2000 with 3000 miles on the ODO. My last one ran to almost 200,000 miles. The one before that might have if it hadn't been totaled in an accident.
It turns worse than a boat, It has a poor design for the main serpentine belt which causes it to fall off in moderate snow. It is ok for acceleration, but it doesn't seal fully and it rattles, it also has a problem with the pump for the automatic top
For 16 years old it's still going strong. Overall it's pretty good. It has 105k miles and what can I say, NO car payment! It's pretty fun, for a 4 door sedan. It's not bad overall. I would buy it again.
