(11 reviews)Tires dry rotted, heater bypassed, wires resided and motor area very rusty, motor and transmission rebuilt, just too much work for me.
Its a truck. I use it for just that. Its a diesel and pulls like a freight train while getting in the 20's for mpg. It has the 7.3ltr international turbo diesel that is known for reliability, simplicity, and longevity; that power-plant coupled with a bulletproof 4x4 drive train equals one reliable, powerful and strong well built truck.
My father bought this truck brand spanking new. I bought it from him back in 2001. It was just a work truck. The 7.3 International diesel is nothing like the diesels are these days. The x-mission was rebuilt twice by my father before I got it. He definitley isn't a " hot rodder " Always hard starts until the engine was warm. Glow plug problem or design. Changing the glow plugs seemed to help for a little while however went right back to hard starts in the mornings. Thats why I say maby the design of the glow plug system. This truck had the engine block heater option when father bought it. He started pluging the truck in at nights and the hard starts in the mornings stoped. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA! go figure! Ford had a recall on the paint. A few years after father bought the truck the peeling started. After the repaint with quality paint everything was fine. I don't know what can be done with the glow plug system. There probably is a fix, however I didn't research the problem. I think the problem with the x-mission was a combination between design flaws for early 90's x-missions and electronic problems also. I vagely remember my father having something electronicly changed out with the x-mission at the dealership while still under warrenty.
It`s biig, it`s baad, and ugly but jesus it drives good, it gets me, to where I want to go, and back again- and with 4 wheeldrive on, it don`t care if there`s a road! The 7.3 diesel, has plenty of power, (just ask the guy, in the corsica, that I smoked!) haha
It's a 91 ford F-250 whats not to like about it I mean really,It's almost twenty years old and still strats and runs every day,and is still solid, how can you beat that will any of those new things.
