(3 reviews)The 1988-1992 Chrysler New Yorker's (also Imperial) is a great car. It's basically a living room on wheels!. My car (89 New Yorker) has proven very reliable and cheap to maintain. Like anything, if you take care of it, and change fluids regularly, it will last a long, long time! I have taken this car everywhere and never had a breakdown. I maintain mine well though and I'm on top of scheduled maintenance that I perform myself. Based on the K-Car platform but improved considerably, the car is very well engineered. The flaws on the vehicle are few and are as follows: The headlight motor has a plastic center that spins a metal rod that moves headlights up and down. Over time, the plastic gets fatigued and develops cracks. I notice many New Yorker owners have this problem. I had to remove mine, fix the plastic. Now it's fine. Also, some interior trim pieces get loose (car is 20+ years old), simply glue back and she still looks new! The automatic leveling shocks are expensive when they need replacing. I replaced mine with adjustable air shocks, cheap and fine. Those problems notwithstanding, Chrysler made a great car with the New Yorker. I love my digital dash too! Everyone that rides in it comments on that. The Infinity stereo rivals a new car's sound system. Just phenomenal!! The roof console was way ahead of it's time with all sorts of date including miles left before empty, average mpg, current mpg, time, temp, monitored systems alerts & directional. The seats are probably the most comfortable seats I've ever been in car of sofa! The seats in my car also have power adjusting knobs and multi seat memory! Not bad for the 1980's! Everything still works in my car. There is simply no reason to get a new car!
Terrible breaks, vague steering, electrics kept breaking, paint seemed "cheap", one of the last of the original Chryslers, RHD conversion proved to be more trouble than if it was kept as a LHD... Glad I sold it, but it was a real head-turner, got a lot of compliments.
Kind of looks like a grandma car, but with alloy pizza wheels from a challenger, it looks pimpin'.
