3.6 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Bought for 2,400 last spring, was an old lady car, had old person bumps and bruises, paint was never taken care of when GM issued the offer to repaint the cars, 13 inch tires suck to find white walls for, only one tire out there. The car handles well but the front seats lack to hold you in even doing below speed limit through most corners. Otherwise they are very comfortable. 1989 did not have the 60/40 back seat, so cargo space is limited to the trunk. the 1990 had the 60/40 rear seats and you could fit a couple full 9 foot long 2/4s from the passenger side to the trunk, and still close the trunk. I have the Quad 4 2.3L I4, parts are there, and relatively cheap, but you must keep up with it or things get expensive. 2.3's are good strong reliable engines when properly maintained. Great on the highway, but the Torque Converter Lock Up Solenoid tends to go bad in the 90's GM 4 cyls. It can just be disconnected and lose the 4th gear over drive, or professionally done for $300. The Quad 4 is known for NVH or Noise Vibration and Harshness, the car when I first got it ran kinda rough, needed an O2 sensor, new plugs, and new fuel injectors, likely the spark plugs were original, so that could have caused that whole plethora of problems. Still vibrates some, but not as bad, I have been using 89 octane and it helped quite a bit. All around a great small car, and mileage, just can not be neglected.
bought it with a rebuilt motor that held up to my stupidity. had some problems with the transmission. the 13 inch wheels were good in the snow, not so good doing corners.
More power than you think. AC is broken. The grill is unique. There is little room for humans in the back seat. I got air in it more than once, never hurt the undercarriage. The radio/climate control panel is more of an afterthought in the car's design.
This car was not something that I am that fond of but it did burn down in the school parking lot. The windshield wipers stopped working along with the electric windows. So driving in the rain was a nightmare. It was made to be an old person cruiser and should only be used as such.
This Skylark was my first race car had a 4 cylinder 2.5 L engine in er she was still going hard until last race in 2007 when she blew up sold it to Dueshlys and now it got crushed.
