Used 1987 BMW 3 Series for Sale near Oakville, ON
4.5 Overall rating
(39 reviews)Everything in this car is stock. Every single spare part has been BMW, and the car has been always mantained by me and my mechanic. For me it is a pretty fast ride, it goes very well through corners; mechanically it is not a very complicated car (just the ABS), and it is loads of fun... LOADS of fun
Great handling, acceleration is alright but need more power. Appearance is timeless and the interior is simple but great. Easy to work on and cost is not that high for parts. MPG's are decent for a Straight 6. The fun factor is great with the top down in the summer!
I just love the boxy E30's, very straight forward design without any cr*p bling-bling stuff. The fuel injected 2.5 litre engine is smooth as silk, yet quite powerful (not the most fuel efficient) when the revs are kept above 3000 rpm. It has a five speed gearbox, but i would have preferred an automatic for even more enjoyable cruising. I have spent less than €500 in repairs since 1996 (when I bought it) and it is an easy car to work on. OK, the soft top makes it noisy, but it is a cruiser aboove all even if it will do in excess of 200 kmh when asked to.
An E30 325i, very flexible car, can be a decent performer and also a daliy driver. Not very fast car, but with good handling, bulletproff brakes. Currently the car is very well kept and performing aceptable for its agel. One of the things I love about it is that it's rear wheel drive. Overal I am very happy with it!
It gets decent average fuel economy for a RWD car. For half city and half highway driving, it gets about 23-24 Miles Per Gallon. The car will take a turn with some body leans. Makes great power for a small straight 6 cylinder engine. I would avoid driving it in the snow, unless equipped with tire chain cables and I am not sure about adding sand to the trunk, if the rear axles and suspension can handle it. My least favorite is the high trunk liftover and small rear door openings. Just don't plan on carrying much bulky items. I guess thank god I do not drive the car anymore, since I have a bad habit of hitting the front spoiler when parking. The trip computer would have a tendency to drain the battery if not driven often enough and it was a $1,000 to replace. When the inspection/oil change light/temperature gauge did not operate correctly, it was fixed by replacing the circuit board inside the instrument cluster. The easiest maintenance to do are the oil changes and changing the spark plugs. However the spark plug wires were never changed, very very expensive and are not kept in stock. The most pain in the neck things to do are changing drive belts. In order to reset oil change and/or inspection light you either have to go to a BMW dealer or buy an expensive reset tool, specifically for certain model year BMWs.
