I love this car. It is very different. There aren't many around. The 1970 model specifically is different rom its predecessors, as its front end is 4 inches longer and the larger "razor" grill is attached to the hood. This is a nice feature for smashing your head on when you check the oil. However it does look cool and the previous small cougars with no grill to speak of ( a wee triangle) look lame in comparison. The generation of cougars that came after mine were entirely different with bigger longer wider bodies. I like them too but mine is more of a pony car and is the mercury example of upgraded version to the sister car Mustang. I don't race my car since it has mostly original drivetrain and I know at my age ( 1 year older than the car) I feel kinda tired out so I will resist the urge to peel rubber. I had a bit when I first got it, but memories of changing timing chains and pinion pins in rear ends snapped me out of it. This car also has a "rim blow" horn that means there is a strip embedded into the inner circumference of the steering wheel and that is the horn button. The rear turn signals also are segmented and flash in a sequence in the direction of the turn. New Mustangs have this feature now .It has hideaway headlights as well adding to the tough look.

Its old, but I've had alot of work done. It shines up nicely. It is a rare beast XR7 s are disappearing up here in the great white north! Its so cool to drive, I love the V8 rumble and its just so pretty gleaming in the sun like polished jewellery!

I bought a '70 Cougar when I was 20 years old, when you could still get leaded premium fuel ... I remember it was about $0.90 a gallon. The Cougar I had was equipped with the 300-horse Cleveland V8. It was the quickest and fastest car I've ever owned. It brakes quite well and handled very nicely. The build quality was about what you'd expect for a '70, but I bought it with 90,000 miles on it and it ran with tons of power. I think it was one of the best Cougar designs Ford ever cranked out. I really liked the hideaway headlights and the sequential rear turn signals ... that was cool. But it got wretched mileage ... probably about eleven or twelve MPG arounf town and fifteen on the highway. It was by far the most fun car I have ever owned, though I only had it for about a year. When I heard on the news they were going to quit making leaded premium, I sold it. I wish I didn't.
