Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i was driving on the highway today and all of a sudden my cars oil gage
went up and then down then the car died. any reason why this would
happen? the mechanic said that the engine is locked up but i can still start
the car and drive it about 3 blocks before it dies. it has been running just
perfect before and just all of a sudden dies now. i have been hard on it
barely, but all the other times i have been treating it nice. it need a oil
change as well but the mechanic said that would not help it! help me please!
any reason why it would do this to me?

could be you oil pump was defective not sending oil thru the engine and it locked it up...nothing to do with beating the car or not...parts break
