Fuel pump

I have a 2001 Pontiac Firebird it’s been sitting
up about two years when you turn the key on
it turns over however should you not hear the
electric fuel pump when you turn the ignition
on?...    I disconnected the two fuel lines that
go to the top by the engine whatever I’m
turning it over it doesn’t pump any gas out
shouldn’t be pumping there?...  should I see it
pumping?    I spray ether in the valve and it
turns over in and starts. But without the ether
it won’t start.  Anybody got any solutions
besides trashing it?....

If you don't hear the fuel pump function when you turn the key, it has probably died or gotten gummed up from the 2 year old fuel. If it is not pulling fuel and pressurizing the fuel line, you will not get any fuel to the engine. Since it starts with the either, you will probably need a new pump and filter.
