Overheating

Asked by Di Jul 29, 2018 at 11:23 PM about the 1998 Ford Explorer 2 Dr Sport 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck overheats. I have changed the thermostat
on my 98 Ford explorer. It worked for one long
distance drive. Otw home it started to overheat. It's
a manual. It's starting to shift hard. Air bubbles in
the coolant.

Possibly a blown head gasket. Check to see if you are leaking any coolant and see if your exhaust pipe emmits a white smoke. If all of these symptoms are there, then you may have a blown head gasket. You may also see that your oil is white and milky. The following picture offers a reference to what a blown head gasket will look like. If you check your head gasket and see anything like a, b, or c then you will need a new one.
