I have a 94 chevy 1500 4.3L 1/2 ton pick 2
wheel drive I just bought it it shifts out of
first into second just fine but don't go into
drive or overdrive what do I do buy a new
one or change the filter I do not have loads
of money cheapest easiest way possible

make sure the fluid is at the right level , if it is burnt smelling it should be replaced , usually when a tranny goes you don't get rev. or out of 1st so a shop may be able to fix it without paying for a rebuild or new .. If you want to change it get a length of hose into the fill tube to the bottom , run it to a pan under the truck and get a siphon going , it'll take a few hours but you don't have to drop the pan and all that mess , the filter has such a wide area they really don't clog, hows that for cheap ?

Common failure of the 4l60e is the 3-4 clutches. When it should shift to 3rd it feels like neutral and just revs until it goes back into 2nd gear. Needs a rebuild
