Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do I tell if I have a flat cam? And is there a
easy way to change it?

Well I am just guessing. I have a four cylinder DOHC . I have a low engine knock. I know that there are no push rods.

If the engine knock is low in the engine then you may have a rod knock. If it is a fairly light sounding tap-tap then you may need to have your valves adjusted.

The sound was more like if something was caught in a fan. My buddy said it sounded like a flat can but I am open to any ideas. He also said he thought he saw little shavings in the oil
