I have a 2011 chevy Malibu and it has been running
good but yesterday I was driving to work and it
won't go past 40 there is no noise or anything it
runs good but not past 40 what can it be?

Well it does not sound like you are stuck in "limp mode", as that doesn't let you go much above 20-25 MPH. Do you have ANY symptoms other than not going above 40? No whining? Does it feel like it's stuck in a lower gear? What sort of RPMs are you making at 40? Any check engine or service lights on the dash? If not, you may still want to pull OBD trouble codes, some don't set a CEL. Some other info might help us in addressing your issue - like mileage on the car & engine type.
