Timing chain ?

Asked by Jack Aug 18, 2017 at 10:39 AM about the 2006 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Mega Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was pulling my 28ft camper up a long grade on the interstate, and the passing
gear kicked in and the motor stated to tick, then clinched and just shut off like I
turned off the key. I pulled to the side of the road and tried to restart it but I got
very little rotation from the motor ( maybe 1/10 of turn). Then no turning at all.
All the lights and electrics work fine, but it refuses to turn over. I can't even turn
it at the crank with a 1/2 inch breaker bar and 13/16 socket. I think the motor is
junk, how about you? Could you let me know please. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like it was the little engine that couldn't. You don't mention engine type or mileage, a 28 ft trailer may have been too much for it to tow up a grade. Does sound like it's fried if you can't spin it. You could try hand cranking it with the plugs out, if you can't do that then it's either rebuild time or you just got yourself a new boat anchor.

It was ( and I mean that literally ), a 2006 dodge ram 1500 mega cab short bed SLT 5.7 hemi with 125000 miles. Bought used and not very good maintenance. Thank you for your help, I just needed confirmation of what I already thought.
