An older Camry or Accord is my recommendation. Factor in insurance which at your age is a HUGE expense.

Normally a older Toyota, Mazda, most American cars will do good. If you want an honest opinion, get a panther platform car (ford crown Vic, Lincoln town car, mercury grand marquis, Mercury marauder) pretty heaving Cars that will keep you safe in the case of a crash and parts are pretty cheap for the crown Vic and grand marquis.

Have been looking at crown vics, but also need a car good on gas.

I have a town car which is about 600 pounds heavier then a crown Vic. I get around 17-18 with mixed highway and residential driving. It’s not too bad. If you live in a place that gets snow, they do very good snow donuts ;)

Grandmothers are a great source for a first car.
