89 ford ranger

truck will run great for about 2 days and then it will start to backfire and run really rich then it won't start for about 6 hours and then I can go out the next day and the truck will fire up and run fine again for 2 days.

my buddy had a 88 and a 90 that did this same thing, thousands were spent trying to figure the problem out, just for it to come back. he sold them as he could never figure it out. But you might want to test the TPS and O2 sensor, But a good start would be to have your mechanic drive it for a bit with his scanner hooked up to the OBD port. best of luck.
