Hi Patsy! All the average owner with the average tool shop can do in most situations can do is make sure the tranny fluid level is ok. And issue the correct fluid level doesn't fix should be referred to transmission specialist ... Good luck!

I have a03 Ford Focus zx2 & mines want going into gear either so I was using a screwdriver (any kind)every time I had to drive..then she started overheating then I took her to get checked & once I got a new fan she started going into gear I've learned that w these little coupes everything is connected soons something's wrong w one thing it trickles something else jus my exp..hope that helps
