Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 1997 pontiac grand am. i am completely lost when it comes to cars. my problem is with my radiator. there is a black cover or container connected to the radiator, if you stand in front of the car facing it , it is on the right side of it. well it is cracked and when i start my car, fluids start pouring out of it. i need to know what this piece is and if i need to replace the entire radiator or just this black piece?
