Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 crown vic feels like it's losing power.
Sometimes it shifts ok but too often it goes back a gear
or acts like it wants to shift back down. Could a fluid and
filter change help? Plus the fluid is dark and smells burnt

make sure the fluid is at the right level then I guess take it to a shop there may be codes to read
