2001 Hyundai Accent, Key will not turn when it's freezing cold

Asked by Christine Nov 18, 2021 at 07:18 PM about the 2001 Hyundai Accent L 2-Door Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I live in Denver, CO and my car is a good car I just
have major problems getting my key to turn
whenever it is in the 40° and below temps! I have
to sit in the cold and continuously keep playing
with it while my foot has the clutch pressed down
and I'm freezing while getting closer to being late
for work! So the car never has a chance to warm
up because whenever it feels like it's ready to turn
for me it has already taken me at least 45 min!!!
OMG what do I do?? HELP PLEASE!!!

try some lock deicer , there's a tiny amount of lube left once it evaporates , I've heated the key with a lighter and put it in the lock before . FYI You don't have a good car .

2001 Hyundai I’m surprised it’s still drivable. The lock de iced is a good idea to try but I think you have more than just a messed up key cylinder, could also be an ignition switch.
