What the cause of random vibrations?

Asked by Shelby Jul 18, 2023 at 12:59 AM about the 2019 Kia Sorento LX V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 2019 Kia sorento and it’s been doing
us well. Except it picks up a vibration every once in
a while. Seem likes it’s after going up hill when it
flattens back out. I did get it to do it for me one
time on a less hilly area. Anyways when it vibrates
it’s throughout the whole car. Not just the front or
steering but the whole thing. And I’d say it’s mild.
Nothing to cause loss of controll. But we had taken
it back to the dealer already because of it. It did fine
all the way to the dealer 89 miles from me. Didn’t
do it while driving around there so they figured it
needed breaks and a tire balance. Seemed to ride
smoother but have found that the vibration is still
there. Told us to bring it back but I’m afraid it’s not
going to do it for them. Not that I don’t like the
vehicle. But I don’t want to be pushed into
something lower or smaller for my family just
because we can’t figure this out. Could it possibly
be a sign of a drive shaft going out? I’m kinda just
stuck on it. Cv shafts seem good. Hubs check out
good. new breaks and rotors. What els am I missing
?

Check the engine and transmission mounts for wear or collapse. I had a vehicle that came into my shop years ago that had a vibration when climbing a hill, I found that the lower engine mount was grounding out when the engine started pulling hard, replaced the mount and the problem went away but it needed the others also but the customer declined.

It could be torque converter clutch shudder. How long does the vibration last? If it's just a few seconds, that may be the problem. Try Lubegard Highly Friction Modified (ATF) Supplement Dr. Tranny Shudder Fix from NAPA
