Service 4WD, traction control, abs lights

Asked by FireCaptain4 May 13, 2024 at 06:25 AM about the 2016 Jeep Compass Latitude 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We were driving on a bumpy part of the interstate
when the cruise control shut off and immediately the
Service 4WD, traction control, Abs lights all came on at
the same time. Once the vehicle sets for a few hours or
over night the lights go out. However once it's driven
again for approximately 45 minutes all the lights will
come back on. Even if we don't use the cruise control.
Has this happened to anyone else and what are the
possible solutions?

Most likely the problem is with one of the ABS (Antilock Brake System) wheel sensors. Probably a bad electrical connection. The systems that you mention all work together. So when the computer sees a problem with one of the systems, all are disabled and all the lights come on. Jim

That’s right, I had nothing but troubles with my old Jeep and the wheel speed sensors and the connectors. After all it is a Chrysler product.

In most cars, if not all, when the computer sees a problem that needs a CEL, it disables traction and stability controls, ABS, and turns off the cruise control. In a Jeep that really gets its wheel area dirty, it's most likely a contaminated wheel sensor. So hit those areas with a pressure washer to see if that fixes it.
