Rain water in the enterior, possible future problems.

Asked by GuruDYJN3B Apr 15, 2024 at 09:27 AM about the 2016 BMW X3 xDrive35i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We had a plugged up sunroof drain and the floor and rear hatch had about 3"
of rain water that sat for several days.  We took it to the dealer for total
drying.  Carpets were not removed.  Once home, used DamprRid containers
and sprayed the entire area twice with mold killer, including headliner, floor,
rear hatch area, etc.  Then left an electric heater on in the car until totally dry
both times.  Should we expect future electrical problems due to corrosion
and rust that we cannot see?

If the carpets and padding was not removed then it’s not totally dry, the dealership I worked at when a vendor came in that wet the everything was removed, seats, carpets, padding and sometimes even door panels, then the vehicle was put in a booth and the temperature was set at 120 degrees with an air circulation unit that had a dehumidifier built in. Anyway when the timers sounded you can bet it was dry. So if they didn’t get it dry then yes you most likely will have some kind of electrical problems down the road.

the carpet has to come up and things need to be treated , that's not an old truck you have there
