Available in three trim levels equipped with an underpowered engine and optional all-wheel drive (AWD), the HR-V is an unremarkable subcompact SUV. A refresh for the 2026 model year adds an improved standard infotainment system and minor styling and interior modifications, but nothing that addresses this model’s primary shortcomings. Verdict: Simply put, the 2026 Honda HR-V is not one of the best subcompact SUVs. It is dreadfully slow and disappointingly inefficient, and it barely meets the minimum technological expectations of the young people who might want to buy it. Plus, it demonstrates none of the innovation seen in the original HR-V and in some competitors in the small SUV segment.

The luxury subcompact and compact crossover classes are popular ones in Canada. They hit the sweet spot for many consumers: the elevated ride height and interior volume of the body style, the prestige badge, and the premium comfort. Smaller subcompact vehicles also tend to come with smaller price tags, adding to the attractiveness of this segment. The Acura ADX lands squarely in size and price among competitors such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Lexus UX, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and others.

Verdict: The Acura ADX delivers on its promise: an experience that is scaled down in size but not standards. Some will find it underpowered, but most will be thrilled to get this mix of comfort, convenience, and styling at a competitive price.
