2022 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a two-row crossover compact SUV with frameless, unibody construction, riding on a platform that was all-new for 2021 and shared with the next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) and in five trim levels. In Canada, FWD prices start at $29,148 before the $1,860 destination fees and AWD at $31,448, equating to a $650 increase for both models compared to the 2021 model year. All-wheel drive costs $2,300 on lower trim levels and is standard on higher trims. And those prices include a new, more powerful engine and a new transmission. At a fuel consumption as low as 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres combined, the 2022 Rogue is the current leader in its non-hybrid compact crossover SUV class.

2023 Dodge Durango Reviews Summary

The evolution of the Dodge Durango exemplifies how the Stellantis brand has evolved from a mainstream competitor to Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, and Toyota into a niche brand emphasizing muscle-car attitude.

The Durango was Dodge's first modern SUV, arriving for the 1998 model year as the brand's entry into the midsize SUV segment. The current, third-generation Durango dates all the way back to the 2011 model year. But, as Dodge has found with the Challenger coupe and Charger sedan, a vehicle's lifespan can be greatly extended with an added dose of horsepower.

The 2023 Dodge Durango lineup starts with the base SXT trim level and moves up through the GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392. Changes for 2023 for Canada include standard heated front seats and heated steering wheel and some new colours (bringing the total colour palette to nine).

However, the big news for 2023 is the return of the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat and its devilish supercharged V8 engine. The Hellcat was previously available only for the 2021 model year as a limited edition, but now it's a regular production model. That being the case, the Hellcat ended up as our test vehicle for this Dodge Durango review.

2022 Nissan Rogue

7/10

2023 Dodge Durango

9/10

The 2022 Nissan Rogue continued to build on its reputation as a top seller in the compact crossover segment. Its design, which had matured significantly since its 2013 redesign, maintained a sophisticated and grown-up appearance. The exterior featured Nissan's V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a sleek floating roof design. Inside, the Rogue boasted a layered dash with contrasting colours and surfaces, an electronic gear selector, and a spacious centre console. The Zero Gravity front seats provided comfort, while the second row offered ample legroom. The fit and finish were exemplary, especially in the Platinum model.

In contrast, the 2023 Dodge Durango, despite its age, remained an attractive option with its clean, car-like styling. It avoided oversized grilles, opting for slim styling and distinctive "racetrack" taillights. The SRT models featured unique styling elements, including a Viper-like hood and unique wheels. The interior, while not as distinctive as the exterior, offered a comfortable space with materials suited to various trim levels. The Citadel model added luxurious features like Nappa leather upholstery and heated seats. The Durango's colour palette expanded, offering more choices for personalization.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue received a significant performance boost with its new 1.5-litre VC-Turbo engine, producing 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. This engine, with its variable compression technology, improved both power and efficiency. The Rogue's fuel consumption was impressive, achieving 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 6.5 on the highway. The new CVT transmission provided a smooth ride, and the chassis and suspension handled the engine's power well, delivering a controlled and comfortable driving experience.

The 2023 Dodge Durango offered a range of powertrains, starting with the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine, producing 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7-litre Hemi V8, standard on the R/T, delivered 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The SRT 392 model featured a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 with 475 hp, while the SRT Hellcat boasted a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 with 710 hp. The Hellcat's performance was exhilarating, with a 0-100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds. The Durango's adaptive-damping suspension and Brembo brakes made managing its power easier, though its size made it less agile on twisty roads.
