2022 Jeep Wrangler Reviews SummaryFor a long time, the Jeep Wrangler represented a vehicle class of one. Where else could you get a two-door or four-door convertible with removable doors, a fold-down windshield, and go-anywhere off-roading capability wrapped in retro styling cues? Today, the Ford Bronco meets that same description and, in some ways, it's superior to the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. But we love this anachronistic throwback of an SUV anyway, warts and all, even if the overall rating appears to suggest otherwise. And a handful of changes to the 2022 Wrangler do nothing but further cement our appreciation of this formerly one-of-a-kind vehicle.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Reviews SummaryA subtle refresh for the 2024 model year (launched in 2023) keeps the popular Mercedes sport-utility competitive against a wide roster of rivals, which include the BMW X5, Genesis GV70, Cadillac XT6, Acura MDX, and Volvo XC90, to name just a few. Changes between the previous GLE and the 2024 model year consist primarily of a subtle redesign of the front grille (look closely and you’ll see it's now filled with tiny Mercedes-Benz star logos), reprofiled headlights and taillights, an updated infotainment system, and optional off-road-themed air suspension system that can raise the GLE 3 centimetres to clear obstacles. It can also shimmy this Mercedes sport-ute back and forth to help get it unstuck over tricky terrain. Specific to our testing purposes, the 2024 GLE also ushers in a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant called the GLE 450e 4Matic. As the last part of the name suggests, like every 2024 GLE, all-wheel drive (AWD) is fitted as standard. Yet the big news is what’s under the hood of this new model, namely a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and 23.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. While fully electrified vehicles presently grab the most automotive headlines, a week spent on a test drive of the GLE 450e highlighted how easily this luxurious PHEV sport-utility adapts to all sorts of driving situations.

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler offered a choice between the classic two-door and the more practical four-door body style, catering to different preferences. Buyers could select from a variety of powertrains, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a gasoline-powered V6, a turbodiesel V6, a gas V8, or the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The standard six-speed manual transmission could be upgraded to an eight-speed automatic, and four-wheel drive was a given, with multiple systems available depending on the trim. The Wrangler came in four core trims: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon, with numerous special editions like the Willys and Willys Sport. The High Tide model, based on the four-door Sport S trim, was a special edition in the US, featuring LED exterior lighting, a body-colour hardtop, and a Gorilla Glass windshield. Despite its price nearing $60,000, the Wrangler Sport S interior remained basic, emphasizing durability over luxury.
In contrast, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE underwent subtle exterior changes that might have gone unnoticed by many. The GLE 450e, finished in Twilight Blue metallic with 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, stood out for its elegant appearance. The interior of the GLE 450e exuded luxury with Macchiato beige and black leather upholstery, complemented by natural grain brown walnut trim. Mercedes offered a wide range of interior colour choices and trims, ensuring a high-quality cabin experience. The GLE's design and features aimed to provide a sophisticated and comfortable driving experience, appealing to those seeking a blend of style and luxury.

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler was equipped with a 3.6-litre V6 engine featuring eTorque mild-hybrid electrification, delivering 285 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the optional Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system, the Wrangler was well-suited for challenging weather conditions. However, its fuel consumption was high, averaging 14.0 L/100 km over a week of testing. The Wrangler's driving experience was unique, characterized by its ruggedness and off-road capabilities, but it came with compromises in comfort and refinement.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered a range of powertrains, including turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines. The GLE 450e featured a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor, producing 381 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The nine-speed automatic transmission ensured smooth power delivery, and the GLE 450e could accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in approximately 5.5 seconds. The GLE 450e's fuel economy was impressive, with an estimated 4.1 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres in hybrid mode. The transition between gas and electric power was seamless, and the suspension provided a comfortable ride even on rough roads.
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler's interior was functional but basic, with durable cloth upholstery and plastic and rubber materials. The driving position was close to the steering wheel and dashboard, requiring some adjustment. Visibility was a mixed bag, with challenges at intersections and a spare tire obstructing the rear view. Rear-seat passengers faced entry and exit difficulties, but once inside, they found comfortable accommodations. Cargo space was generous, with 898 litres behind the rear seat and 2,050 litres with the rear seat folded.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE offered ample space and comfort for passengers, with generous headroom and legroom in both the first and second rows. The cabin felt light and airy, and visibility was excellent. The GLE 450e provided 630 litres of cargo space behind the second row, with additional comfort features like power-adjustable heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The GLE's interior was well-appointed, with a range of luxury features enhancing the overall experience.
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler's infotainment system was basic, with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While the larger Uconnect 8.4 system offered more features, the standard setup met essential needs. The Wrangler included options like remote engine starting, satellite radio, and a passive keyless entry system, along with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE featured the Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch screens. The system was user-friendly, though it required some time to master its features. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, along with an improved voice command system. Optional features like a head-up display and augmented reality navigation added convenience. The GLE's technology offerings were comprehensive, enhancing the driving experience.
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler offered optional safety features through the Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. However, its crash-test ratings were less than stellar, with a three-star rating for rollover resistance from the NHTSA and Marginal ratings from the IIHS.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE came with a comprehensive suite of standard and optional safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The GLE received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, reflecting its strong safety performance.
