This is the best car to have. I really love the body style of it compared to the newer ones, this one is a classic. It runs really good and lasts for a long time! Very reliable!Sep 22, 2024

Toyota 4Runner has been the best SUV for almost forever. While there are many other expensive SUVs of various brands. The 4Runner stays forever. It is really a great, rather affordable and strong, no frills SUV. Both the Japanese brands Toyota and Honda have been the main-stay of SUV ownership in USA and perhaps the world over for the longest time. One cannot go wrong with TOYOTA ever. Not that Honda is not good, it is just that Honda has been 2nd to Toyota forever. One always hears about Toyota Land cruiser etc. still being used after 50 years in some rather rough locations in Africa and Arabian Peninsula, but not so about any Honda! Whether it is Hilux in Asian lands or Land Cruiser or 4Runner or Fortuner in India, Toyota is not easily beatable. It can easily go on forever. This itself indicates its great value. The 6 Cylinder engine could definitely be more powerful but surely does gets the job done perfectly. Was never a fan of 8 Cylinder so no need to talk about it because a few more horsepower for lot more gas is definitely not worth talking about. As indicated above other SUVs come and go but Toyota Suvs : 4Runner stays. Its nearest and only worthwhile competitor has to be Honda Passport. Again, this is dance between two worthy opponents. The fact that both are Japanese brands, is of striking importance. The fact that, Japan a tiny country could come up with a century winner automobile brand while so many other much sophisticated countries could not, indicates the greatness of thought process involved in creating such a master piece. In their own way both these automobile brands are equals in their spheres of influence, Honda being slightly cheaper of the two. There are other more expensive and perhaps known brand models ( BMW, Lincoln, Nissan) and such, but looking at a balance of price power and affordability Toyota 4 Runner cannot be beaten ! Not much of a fan of the later boxy style 4 Runners but otherwise this SUV cannot be beat !Mar 05, 2023

Boring reliability. So far after 14 years of ownership, nothing has been replaced except maintenance items likes tires, fluids, drive belts, and the occasional brake pads.Jun 09, 2021

This is the absolute best car ever. I would recommend this SUV to families, who are on the go. It's great on gas mileage. Handles well. Maintenance is reasonable. Easy to drive. Safe all around. Great for commuting or for a drive up to the mountains.Feb 09, 2015

Good acceleration, very roomy, good handling and comfortable for long trips. Fuel economy is the weak point for this SUV. Excellent reliability, low maintenance cost, repairs and spare parts are very affordable. A great buy for. 2002 Toyota 4Runner SR5.Jan 14, 2014

I absolutely love this car; it's too bad I hadn't purchased the version with 3rd row seating initially. Compared to other offerings in this category the 4Runner is a much more serious vehicle when it comes to 4WD capabilities and rugged dependability.Dec 11, 2013

I love this truck. It is very reliable. I have had no mechanical issues with it. We have been on many family trips and it's had plenty of room for luggage and everything else we needed to bring. It is a quality truck!Oct 07, 2013

This is the best truck I have ever owened! It does ride like a truck, so if you want a truck that rides like a car buy a Highlander, they are built to ride like a car a Toyota Camry in fact.
My son was involved in a very bad accident in a 2005 version of my 4 runner. A loaded dump truck pulled out in front of my son only able to get up to 8 mph. My son was going 55 mph in the left lane of a major highway just slightly ahead of a fully loaded log truck in the right lane. My son locked the brakes swerved hit the lt rear end with his lt front end of the dump truck. My son was then horizontal in the middle of the highway & the log truck struck the 4 runner broadside on the driver side going 55 mph, fliped the 4 runner over 3 times & came to rest on top of my sons 4 runner. It took 3 tow trucks to remove the log truck off of the 4 runner. My son was trapped for 2 hours. Yes my son was hurt.., however he did not die,he is not paralyzed & his brain was never injured! I believe the many safety features & many air bags of this Toyota 4 runner helped to save his life.May 04, 2013

This is a smooth SUV. It handles incredibly well and is very safe and comfortable to drive. It is insanely reliable and has tons of cargo space. It's the perfect sports SUV in that it tows boats, bikes and skis. Nov 20, 2012

I couldn't ask for a better vehicle. I have a job where I have to carry a lot of bulky equipment and this vehicle has been able to accomodate everything I have needed. I feel very safe in this SUV. It looks, handles and accelerates very nicely! Fun to drive! I have not had any maintenance done besides the recommended services. Toyota is the #1 brand of automobiles so no worries there! Performance: all around great
Build: Never had any issues
Appearance: Great, hood scoop has a great look to it
Fun Factor: Haha It's the only car I like driving anymore... it's the car I learned
how to drive in, and it's completely and totally a wonderful car to own. Aug 19, 2010

Build Quality:
This 4Runner sustained a rear end collision while
we were stopped when the other driver hit me at a
speed between 45-55 MPH - it was verified that
she didn't try to stop. My 4Runner had minor
damage. Her car was trashed. My toddler was safe.
I had minor neck injury from the sheer force of the
hit.
The emergency crew on scene were astounded at
how well my vehicle stood up in that scenario and
said most cars and passengers in those same
situations end up badly injured with totaled
vehicles.
My car was drivable and had minor body work
done. I still drive it and would buy another one.
Performance:
It outperforms most vehicles of this class, and even
some smaller cars which have been tricked to race.
Tow capability. Handles very well.
Appearance:
Rugged exterior yet still sleek in body styling.
Spoiler is a must! Interior is comfortable, user
friendly and roomy. Plenty of space for the family
and your luggage for your road trip.
Cost of Ownership:
MPG is excellent, we've maintained the vehicle
meticulously, so even now that we're over 100K in
miles, it runs as beautifully as the day we drove it
off the lot.
Fun Factor:
It's 4WD, it's fun! Upgrade your tires and you're set
for some major fun. If we had the SeaDoo's we'd
be towing them around to the lake and back for
more fun. The tow capability is good for the V6.
Get a V8 and it's even better.Jul 20, 2009

Purchsed the vehicle new in 2004. The truck has all the bells and whistles, very good performance and has encountered NO quality issues as of yet. It has 60,000 miles and drives/looks like it's brand new. I would purchase a new 4 runner in a heartbeatJul 15, 2009

The most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I've had it 2-1/2
years and it's bullet proof. The only thing it can't do is put gas
in itself. You can't go wrong if you're considering buying one.
Mine is one of the rare two-wheel drive versions but I still love
it!Jun 11, 2009

I loved my 4Runner, the way it drove, rode, everything about it and I regret trading it. The Sport Edition I owned had a cool hood scoop that gave it a distinctive look. The total package was a good buy and I wish I had never traded it.Apr 29, 2009

The power it has being a V8 is great on the freeway and going up mountains. The full time 4wd with low range is great in rain or snow. The only negative on the car is the gas mileage a v8 with full time 4wd is not going to get good gas mileage. Mar 04, 2009

Best SUV I have ever own. Strong built and great response. Quality is one of the best and the look is just perfect for me. Also Gas consumption is very acceptable on a vehicule like this. The rugged look of the tires, hood, mudgards and rack is perfect. Definitively I 'll recommendedAug 03, 2008
