88 accord lxi hatch. 2.0 single cam 12 valve. acceleration is alot better than most might beleive and goes hand in hand with the cars top speed of 130-140mph.not bad for an 88 accord. the car is relatively light at 2450lb. (only 600lb. heavier than the mazda miata). due to this fact the car handles and respondes only slightly under the miata`s standards. with aftermarket upgrades the car has true potential in the tuner scene.Sep 28, 2012

A 1986 Accord Aerodeck LX (euro) 2,0i 4cyl 120hk. Bought this car 3 years ago, 2011 marks this cars 25th year of service! Around 240,000km on the clock, the car has been really well cared for, immaculate paint, no rust!Nov 15, 2011

I picked this up after I totaled my Achieva. It was rusted out beyond belief and had no balls, but I'm not going to argue with high 30's to the gallon with my aggressive driving style. Ended up trading it off when I started having issues I didn't want to fix.Jan 26, 2010

Great car, superior Japanese reliabilty, awesome hatchback, fun to drive, zippy engine, and good gas mileage. Rolling on 13" wheels and there's a lot of rust due to northeast weather. Many of my parts will be purchased at a local salvage yard. It's old and what more can you ask from it. The car does not ask anything from me. It just goes where I want it to go. Thank you Honda Jan 18, 2010

One of the few sedans that ever had pop-up
headlights. The double wishbone suspension
made this a great handling car, and the Honda
4cyl. engine got better than average performance
and gas milage. Very reliable, with excellent fit
and finish. Jan 13, 2010

Loved it! It was awesome for a first car. It had all the features for that year. It was a quick car for a '88 I mean it had a 2 liter engine which was good and it also got close to 30 MPG.Jul 25, 2009

This car bailed me out when i was down and out! literally saved my a$$.
back in 2003 my recently paid off jeep grand cherokee blew a transmision out of the blue and i was stuck with no car.(wife had a brand new saturn mini van for her and the baby...didnt want/could not afford 2 car payments)
we had a new baby & recently moved to a new house in the burbs and we were financially strapped!
things were bad. a colleague of mine sold me the car for $500 and there was 88k on the clock. car was originally from TX and has not been driven in 2 years! this car was ultra reliable! i never had any problems with it! never left me(or my wife)stranded. was used as a commuter car for roughly 5 years. not for a race can or what ever those 20 something kids try to do with them!!worked out nice when gas was hovering around $4 a gallon. i got around 33MPG
im 6'4" 250 and it was just fine for me. things got better finacially and i still kept the car..why not? but i recently sold it with 160,000 on the odometer for $1500 and quickly bought a 1997 accord wagon! im no import fan,im from a UAW ford family that grew up in inner city Detroit,MI. and would never buy any NEW import vehicle period! but if your on a tight budget you cant go wrong with one of these cars! wold make a great first car or a car to rack up the miles on..Jul 02, 2009

Well, my honda has accent glow on the interior. My engine is also more powerful than the stock engine it comes with. Just need a paint job. 250,000 miles and still going strong! Just need a good new paint job!Jun 29, 2009

I have a 1986 accord hatchback. bought it for $924.00 Can on a car lot taxes and all. It needs a muffler.
I drive a car with 350,000km on it and it burns no oil. goes like a bat out of hell and sounds great doing it. I would buy another if I could find one but they are very rare here.
It's built like a tank and has handling that makes many newer cars look like a joke. it's stock. I won my last three races based on the little bit of power and the insane handling.
passengers rave about how ere it corners even on ice and how easy I can throw it around.
I can't say enough about it. the only stock car I ever liked better for handling is my Rx7, but the savings in gas with my accord s make it the better car hands down.Dec 29, 2008

My favorite Honda so far-My Accord LXi hatch. (the drop down doesn't show LXi hatch only LX). I LOVED this car and only got rid of her because I had to pay rent and hadn't worked in a few months-didn't want to get a job so I sold my second car-I sold my CRX Si a few months earlier to stock up some rent $, but not before putting the CRX Si wheels on my Accord. Oddly enough, I was driving my Accord more often than my 94 Mazda Protege.
I bought my Accord LXi hatch for $500 with 225k on the clock in 2000. I sold her with 293k for double what i paid.
I loved the pop up headlights, the smooth shifting 5 speed, the cool hatchback cargo cover, the ginormous truck, the power crap and how she handled in corners on exit ramps. Did I mention the cool pop up lights and sleek fastback design? I actually liked this more than my 93 Accord EX sedan which was my baby...
If money was no object and I could restore a car, this Accord would be in my garage again...Dec 13, 2008

This was my sisters car. I used it alot eventhough it was her car. I drove it to school and I had it when I was in the Navy until she died on me. Acceleration has ok. Handling was ok. It was a very fun car to drive. I love HondasAug 29, 2008

LIKES- 22 mpg in the city, 28 on the highway. good gas mileage, has the "FLIP" headlights, zippy acceleration, spacious interior, fog lights, sporty hatchback body style, very accurate power steering and brakes, engine is in great condition; for an old car, very dependable, runs like it could go another 100,000 miles
DISLIKES- has a dent on the right passenger door (I WAS IN MY FIRST ACCIDENT ONE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT MY FIRST CAR. SEEMS LIKE AN OMEN... RIGHT?). the trim above the back left wheel well is peeling off, a little bit of paint rush. sometimes when my car idles, it feels like it might stall out. all these things just come of age obviously... i would still recommend this car to any teens or adults. i personally like the sporty, 80's classic Hondas.
Price- $1,600

It is a very good reliable car, it has about 230,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Obviously there are some things that need to be replace just because it is old, but other than that it is a really nice car. Jun 19, 2008

I got my car for super cheap. As with most older model Hondas, the exterior needs improvement but the engine and other major components have alot of life still. With a little work it will be very reliable!Apr 18, 2008

I loved this car as it was my first. I thought it was beautiful and fast but then again I was 16 and gas cost .95$ a gallon. 9$ a tank was needless to say a bargain for taking road trips. It also saved my life in a car crash.Mar 28, 2008

When my father stopped driving due to health, he gave me his. At this was in 2004 and timing was right as I'd just left a job and had to give up my company car. At the time, the car had just over 65000 miles...since then I've racked up another 20000. Maintenance costs are low, because there are some things I can do (not so on newer cars...need close to a PhD it seems). Additionally, I've had few repairs. It is a great car, rides a little rough because the car is at a point of needing shocks. With gas prices high and only going higher, the Accord gives me a nice alternative to driving my 2003 Explorer.Dec 04, 2007

Pretty quick for what it is as a manual trans, won lots of races. Hauled an 80cc dirtbike in the trunk. Engine will last forever, took the valve cover off to take a peek and there was very mimimal wear and no sludge build up, car has over 350,000k on it and all it needs is a carburator rebuild and a rad. My car is great on gas. Not much frills, but usually realiable. Works very well for my family unless it is hot outside.

Love my 87 Accord LX, except two design challenges. (1) It has a complex web of vacuum hoses that took me two days to replace one by one. (2) I've heard one reliable mechanic and an Internet source both stating that if you begin having carbeurator troubles on this model, there's almost no fixing it (time to move on).
Update in 2012: Still driving this oldie at almost 250,000 miles with no major issues other than typical repairs as the miles pile up. The AC died on this vehicle before I bought it, and my Honda mechanic says the compressor on this vehicle was a piece of junk not worth replacing. Apr 18, 2007

I have seen plenty of reviews on cars that are great and i get a little tirersome of the pages people write so i'll keep it short. I have a 1987 accord one of the plainest cars they made with only a/c and cruise. I have to say though it runs great and only has minor problems but that only started when it hit the 200,000 mile mark. It now has 215,857 and runs fine. So parents looking to get there kids a first car this is a great one or just as a low salary car.Apr 09, 2007

325,000 plus miles, and drive it about 50 miles every day. Never have a problem taking it on road trips either. I love this car. I paid $150 for it almost 3 years ago, and it just keeps getting better!Nov 01, 2006
