Unless you have owned a Taurus I don't think you will appreciate one. This car rides amazing, has tons of space, gets good fuel mileage, and will also get up and go when you need it to. The interior has everything that you need and is easy to use. Jan 12, 2014

This car is a sound basic sedan with a lot of room. Very economical on the pocketbook. The room in the back seats are astounding even with the front seats all the way back.
The performance is OK, Road handling is OK. Repairs are not too bad.Aug 05, 2013

The Ford Taurus had some years where Ford ignored it and quality and reliability were an issue. For 2004, this was not a problem as Ford started paying attention again. The SES has all the standard features for mid value sedans of that year. The 3.0 L engine is a little weak for a car this size but it is adequate. Just don't expect it to put you back in your seat if you hit the gas to get on the freeway. Ford doesn't seem to think people want or need second gear. I've noted several models over the years that did not have a second gear on the automatic gear selectors. I find a second gear in heavy traffic keeps the car from shifting constantly.Jul 15, 2012

The car is very comfortable in the front and back with alot of leg room and storage. The trunk is also pretty big. Its overal just a solid, inexpensive car that doesn't look too bad. It did ride too bad either. Its not as smooth as newer cars, of course, but it's actually more smoothe than i thought it would be.Jun 12, 2012

. Over all it has been a true blue vehicle that has NEVER let us down. Not a mechanical problem ever and not any other problem. Steady, friendly car to own. We have no squacks with this nice Ford. And it cleans up good. Mar 08, 2012

Our wonderful Ford Taurus--over 10 years old and still enjoyable to drive and ride in. Our modern version of the Model T. We have driven this car as a family car, as a car for our college age son at school, and now as a second car. It has never disappointed us. Feb 10, 2012

It is a great, smooth ride. I got it used from my dad, but it was a fleet car for a company first. It is very big and for its size it has pretty good MPGs not the greatest but still a great car. It looks sharp and the seats and carpet are nice and last a long time. The only beef with this car I have is the the radio is very bad. But overall it is a great car! For sure buy.Jan 25, 2012

Handles great, good gas mileage, comfortable, easy to take care of, no repairs needed. Interior in great condition, exterior only has a minor scratch on front fender. Shows number of miles left before you run out of gas which is a nice feature.Dec 23, 2010

Owned this car about 4years - 2nd owner. I define the 2002 Ford Taurus as middle class luxury and a middle class price. It's a great car for the money. My Taurus has a few nice options like CD changer, moon roof, auto-on/off courtesy lights, driver's adjustable foot pedals, and the 24valve DOHC 3.0L Duratec V6 engine.
One nice thing about the Taurus is that due to it's commonality on the streets you can easily find salvage parts if needed. Took advantage of this a couple of times when someone ran it over curbs and broke the wheels - easy to find in salvage yards
Performance is good enough for a mid size sedan. Enough power to get onto freeways and pass with ease. Suspension works fine for moderately aggressive driving.
Body and build quality seems good and the car does not rattle or squeak at 140Kmi.
Repair problems and been acceptable up to around 120Kmi -
Replaced three ignition coils at 80Kmi.
Replaced A/C compressor at 90Kmi.
Replaced water pump at 100kmi.
130Kmi -
A/C evaporator sprang a small leak ; an expensive repair that requires removing the dashboard to get to the evaporator.
Driver's seat leather developed some deterioration and tears.Dec 05, 2009

Performance-handling, braking are both pretty good
Build Quality- the driver door got stuck open once, but other than that nothing has had to be repaired before.
Appearance- gray interior and exterior
Cost of ownership- about $30 to fill with gas
Fun factor- it's pretty fun to drive, the speakers are pretty good for a stock car.Oct 12, 2009

It was a really nice car. Far more fun to drive than, for instance, a Camry. It had the pushrod 3.0L V6 which felt kind of like a little diesel...low-end grunt, no problem getting out of it's own way but not a lot of top-end. Sure, I put more money into it over the years than I would have liked, but that's partly because I refused to let anything be less than new, operationally... I will miss My White Bull!Sep 21, 2009

Performance - great acceleration, good breaks, handles well, could use some new tires though. Has a 24 valve engine. Pretty good gas mileage, 22 mile per gallon and i normally drive it kinda hard cause it's just more fun that way. Aug 04, 2009

Known as the 'Off Road Taurus', she became a legend in her day. The car was build surprisingly solid and put up with everything I threw at it during her 5 year life span with me. She wasn't much of a performer, except when it came to the highway. She could weave in and out of traffic just as good as cars half her size. She has a special place in my heart and all the hearts of those who the privilege of knowing her.Jun 04, 2009

Solid, dependable car, just very bland and unexciting. Car is
comfortable, quiet and rides smooth. Seems to be well made
for an American car. Mine is the 24 valve V6 with 203
horsepower, and it runs well. Mileage has ranged from 18 to 29
MPG, with normal mixed driving around 21. Dec 24, 2008

Performance is ok, accelerates and brakes great, handles well, hasn't needed any repairs as yet, but has an electrical issue I need to have looked at, hopefully not too catastrophic, look pretty good, but I like sportier styles, no repairs so far but gas mileage is what you'd expect for a 6 cylindar (not great). It drives pretty good and it kicks ass in the snow, 10 times better than any car I have ever owned, Love that!
I would reccomend this for a commuter car, not for a fun car. Dec 23, 2008

The Taurus was my first car, a little over a year
after I started driving I was in an accident in which
another person pushed me off the road up an embankment airborne into a tree. As you can see
from the pictures the car was an utter mess, the
officer and paramedics said that if I had been in
any other car other than a Taurus they don't know
if I would have lived. My accident proves that the
Ford Taurus is one hell of a safe car.
Performance --> I can't complain, it wasn't going
to set any land speed records, or impress anyone
but it got the job done.
Build Quality --> The car was as solid as a rock, it
could take anything thrown at it and it would have
no issues.
Appearance --> What can I say, it was pretty bland
but that is okay it could have been hideous like a
Cavalier or something, but it wasn't.
Cost of Ownership --> It got about 33 mpg Hwy
and about 25 mpg city. Maintenance wise there
was no issues what so ever.
Fun Factor --> What fun factor?
Overall --> I was pleased with my first car as it
was a safe and reliable ride.

Great car for beginners. Good gas mileage, easy to drive, and appealing to the eye. Not for power, speed, or racing, but all around a solid car. I got it after my dad got a new car, and it was great. Already up to 220000 miles, and runs great. I never get scared of it breaking down.Oct 07, 2008

I loved this car. I had no problems with it ever until I totaled it. It was very roomy and had great gas mileage. I would recommend this car to everyone. Great with the cruise control. Gas was great as well. Get far for your money. Brakes were good too.Aug 06, 2008

This is a good car. Great gas mileage. i have 75,000 miles and i've only had to fix a few things for as long as i have it. with the price of gas right now it costs about 70 dollars to fill up which isn't that bad with the gas it gets. It is a very comfy ride i did a four hour drive two weeks ago and it was a very comfy drive felt like i was on the couch. Its a good car and i love the thing. As much of an old man car it is it does its job and.... I can't be mad at at itJul 14, 2008

One of the cleanest cars I have ever drove in. It was kept in imaculate condition. And the power options in it are almost endless. Power windows, locks, mirrors, seats, pedals, auto air, heated mirrors, CD/cassette/AM/FM.Apr 22, 2008

Taurus - the car that saved Ford in the mid 1980s.
The fourth generation Taurus (2000-2007) is a very good choice in the larger range of the midsize sedan class. It is essentially the same car as the third generation Taurus (1996-1999) minus the overly oval styling. The powertrain was upgraded for 2000, and again for 2004.
The base engine is one of Ford's most reliable designs, albeit an old one. The 3.0 liter overhead-valve V6 is named Vulcan after the Roman god of fire and ironworking, Vulcan, because of it's completely cast iron construction. It puts out 155hp and 185 lb/ft. of torque. Flex-fuel versions, able to run on methanol or ethanol in addition to gasoline, were available from 1993 on.
Optional was a 3.0L Duratec V6. It is a more modern dual overhead cam design, pushing 201hp and 207 ft/lbs. torque. It has also proved to be very reliable since its introduction in 1996.
PERFORMANCE:
Acceleration wiith the Vulcan engine is average. It certainly won't set the world on fire, but it will get you to 60mph in about 10 seconds. The Duratec will get you there in eight, but it has much more higher-RPM kick than the Vulcan.
Handling is pretty good for a relatively big, soft family sedan. The original equipment Continental tires absolutely ruin the car. The chassis is very stiff thanks to several key design elements of the unibody structure: one-piece side stampings running the full length of the car; front strut towers integral with the firewall; and rear strut mounting points tied directly to the side panels and to each other (the rear parcel shelf is a structural piece). The car gives more driver feedback than, say, a Toyota Camry. In stock form at the limit, there is safe, predictable understeer. Grip is good without the atrocious Continentals.
Braking is average. The lack of rear discs on the sedan is disappointing. Pedal feel is better without the optional adjustable pedals, but mine has better feel than most adjustable pedal cars I've driven. Swapping to rear discs is relatively straightforward.
Performance category recieves three stars with the VUlcan engine - four with the Duratec.
BUILD QUALITY:
After seven years and nearly 90,000 miles on the road, the only thing that really rattles on my '01 is the power mirror switch. Occasionally the moonroof shade will rattle if it's left in the wrong place.
Springs are a problem area. Watch for sagging or broken springs. This is a design flaw that may or may not show itself, but is more common in places that use road salt.
Other than that, the interior is a nice place to be, and the car is well put together. 300,000 mile examples are more common than you might expect.
Build gets four stars because of the spring issues and it's not a Rolls Royce.
APPEARANCE:
It's much less controversial than the third generation "jellybean"/"catfish" Taurus It still looks modern, sleek, and classy. There are a few key lines that absolutely make the car's looks that the designers nailed, all while working in the constraints of the old car's platform (and doors!). ANd this one's Spruce Green. Five stars.
OVERALL:
Excellent value, very reliable, roomy, comfortable, good looks. I spend lots of time on the road, and it's a nice place to be. Find yourself one that wasn't a rental and has been well maintained. Five stars.Feb 27, 2008

The Taurus has been in production since the 1980's and is a very solid and reliable vehicle. The engine has not changed much since the first-generation Taurus, and the option of a 200hp DOHC V6 is available as an upgrade for the stock 155hp OHV V6. The transmission is a 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The SE edition of both the sedan and wagon have 16" aluminium rims and 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes. On the inside, a 6 speaker Mach audio system come standard and a 6 CD changer is available. There are also 2 12 Volt cigarette lighter/power outlets for other accessories. It also comes standard with cruise control, power windows, locks, power 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, limited slip differential, and other features commonly seen with other vehicles in its class.
