Awful electrical issues since getting the car. Burns up oil, bad on gas. Can’t operate it right now because car keeps shifting into park while driving..in town, on the INTERSTATE, etc. terrified of this car & can’t find a fix. Mar 06, 2025

It was a nice car but... the guy has his daughter show up in the car. He doesnt have the title. Weve contacted him on several occasions about the title, he still doesnt have it. He told us where to meet him, didnt have anything to do with where we met. Edmund stats say that the transmission doesnt always work, we test drove it, no passing gear. To me thats the start of a lot of trouble. Jun 22, 2023

My 2014 Captiva started rear its ugly head a year after I got it. I bought it used at 100,000 miles on the odometer and had to have the fuel system rebuild for $750 in 2020. Last year (2022) I had to replace the heater motor and the motor door switch which cost $800. Now in 2023 the timing belt let go which messed up my #4 piston. There is moisture in my engine and oil. Plus the excessive moisture is wearing down my motor parts and cam shaft. Too expensive to fix, now shes sitting in my garage and unusable.Mar 14, 2023

I bought used with 8,000 miles on it, and ran it to 117,000 with essentially nothing done to the car but regular oil changes, a battery and tires. One of the best cars I have ever owned in my 70 years. Nice size, plenty of room but not too big or heavy, Decent, but not great gas mileage. Controls easy to read, everything well placed. No real complaints and just sold car for about 50% of what I paid for it 7 years ago. Would buy another one tody if they still made them.Aug 23, 2022

Was nice car we didnt have it a year and the engine seized it was used. Everything says it burns oil but from what I saw its not burning it its being sucked out of a hise on the top of the engine straight into the air intake. I changed the oil and less than 2 months after it was locked up never gave a warning light or nothing it started out by randomly stalling but no check engine light would illuminate so I had no clue where to start. I recommend avoiding these with the 4 cylinder or be very diligent in checking oil regular.Oct 06, 2021

Makes one's heart skip a beat when viewed from the exterior. Great styling with affordable comfort and reasonable economy.
The V-6 engine has adequate power and an "Eco" mode that improves highway mileage.
Six speed transmission shifts haltingly trying to get into the highest gear as quickly as possible for improved mileage economy.Jul 07, 2014

I rented a Captiva on a business trip for a week recently, after having test driven one (for my daughter). It looks small, but inside, it's fairly roomy. We had 3 adults and all were comfortable, though back seat was snug for me (6'/225 lbs) sitting behind driver (about 6'). Would probably be uncomfortable on longer trips. Easy access to radio and climate controls, dashboard is visible.
Even though it was 4 cylinders, it got right up on the highway and into highway speeds with no problems.
Finally, I really liked the visibility. We have an Avalanche and an Infiniti SUV, each with some blind spots. I really didn't sense any blind spot looking left, right or in rearview.
I feel comfortable this would be a safe, practical car for my daughter and will likely buy one.May 10, 2014

Appearance great sporty looking, lots of room for car seats or girl friends for the weekend. Seems to handle well on roadways, safe, sits up higher than most little cars so you don't feel like you are scraping the road.Oct 21, 2013

I really like the exterior style and overall multipurpose functionality of the vehicle. It is a truly sport utility vehicle with a attractive appearance and good drive-ability.
The rear seats fold flat and make for increased cargo functionality.
The ride and drive is responsive and sporty, giving one a good feel of the road without being super stiff like the larger SUV's.
