Might be ageing but still a fine piece of '80s German engineering I love it! Top of the range GTI 16V in sought after diamond silver colour. Power- : -steering, - locks, -windows, sunroof plus a massive boot! The car thanks to being so light and short wheel based is very agile and nimble, very neutral through the bends with predictable reactions. Acceleration for a 20year old car with no major upgrades is fantastic 0-60 is about 8s, tested top speed 130-135mph is also respectable for a car of this age with only 1.8 engine. Disc brakes all round no ABS though, handbrake is disappointing. I have lowered the car some 40mm and it now has koni suspension so it handles nicely thou the comfort has suffered as the roads aren't so great around London - the car is alergic to high speed bumps :) Ok so it doesn't look as fab as all the new shiny cars, but I still think it is cool as there aren't as many around now which makes it stand out from the crowd but not too much. Oh, and it can still smoke a lot of the newer cars off the lights as it has very short gear ratio and is much lighter than most of them. Costs are another plus, cheap insurance, cheap service and parts, fuel economy isn't great but you can live with it 28(city)-36(m-way)mpg The car is an absolute star! My little pocket rocket, aka. the Silver Bullet 2 :) Is this car fun to drive? On a scale from 0 to 10 it would score 11! (now honestly, considering all the ups and downs I have had with this car I would easily award it with a solid 8) Jul 22, 2010
