How much does the Honda Insight cost in today's market?

| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $20,630 | $19,845 – $21,410 |
| 2020 | $19,719 | $17,339 – $19,727 |
| 2019 | $16,999 | $16,112 – $17,627 |
The Honda Insight's current nationwide average price is $16,953, and its year-round low is $15,934.61. That gives you a sense of where the model sits right now across the years in the data. Recently, prices have eased on the 2022 models, while other recent model years have held firm or risen.
Is the Honda Insight a good car?
Yes — the Honda Insight is a strong pick if you want a hybrid that blends efficiency, comfort, and everyday practicality.
The all-generations owner rating is 4.71/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Insight for its excellent fuel economy, comfortable cabin, smooth ride, and easy-to-use technology. Many also highlight its stylish design, solid build quality, and strong safety features, especially the driver-assistance systems and clear rear-view camera.
Expert reviews rate the 2019 model among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs called out in expert reviews are road noise, engine noise during hard acceleration, and the CVT’s groaning under load.
30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Honda Insight models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Honda Insight as a dependable, efficient hybrid with a comfortable interior and strong everyday usability. Expert feedback also points to a well-built car with smooth, refined driver-assistance systems and a solid safety record.
- Owners rate the Honda Insight between 4.6 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership picture looks reassuring, especially if you prioritize efficiency, comfort, and a car that has earned strong owner satisfaction.
What should I look for when buying a used Honda Insight?
Across all model years, at 72.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2022 | 81.6% |
| 2021 | 79.6% |
| 2020 | 71.9% |
| 2019 | 70.6% |
| 2014 | 57.1% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist; EX and Touring add LaneWatch.
- Infotainment: an 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voicemail playback, and text messaging support.
- Fuel efficiency: 52 mpg in combined driving for the LX and EX trims, and 48 mpg in combined driving for the Touring.
Which Honda Insight trim should I buy?
The 2019 Honda Insight offers these trims:
- LX: The entry trim gives you the core Insight hybrid experience, and it is the best-value trim if you want the model’s efficiency and everyday practicality at the lowest price point.
- EX: This trim adds LaneWatch, giving you a camera view of the car’s right-side blind spot.
- Touring: The top trim adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, leather power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, fog lights, a 10-speaker premium sound system, navigation with real-time traffic, and Honda Link subscription services with a Wi-Fi hotspot.
What Honda Insight do most buyers choose?
The Honda Insight years with the most listings are 2020, 2021, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 217 | 33.2% |
| 2021 | 181 | 30.4% |
| 2019 | 180 | 33.9% |
| 2022 | 125 | 30.4% |
| 2014 | 14 | 21.4% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices, which can make it easier to compare trims, mileage, and pricing. They also tend to be the years shoppers return to most often because the supply is deeper and the selection is broader.
What is the Honda Insight's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $20,630 | −3.41% |
| 2019 | $16,999 | +0.32% |
| 2020 | $19,719 | +2.88% |
The price movement is mixed, with one recent year easing and the others edging upward. That means some used Insight model years are still holding close to their prior pricing, while others have softened enough to create better buying opportunities. The changes are small overall, so the model’s pricing picture looks relatively stable across the years shown.
The 2019 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2020, 2019, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Honda Insight safe?
- 2019: 9/10
The Insight’s driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems work well, and the 2019 model includes Honda Sensing with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a reversing camera.
For the safest used buy, the 2019 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Honda Insight now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,719. The Honda Insight offers a comfortable cabin, strong everyday practicality, and a polished hybrid character that works well for commuting.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The new Insight has a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, an electric drive motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, and an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
- Tech: The Insight’s 8-inch touchscreen display is easy to use, and the system provides Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voicemail playback, and text messaging support.
- Safety: Every Insight is equipped with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist systems.
- Starting price: The base LX is priced at $22,830.
If you're buying used today, the 2020 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2023 inventory to mature.

Owners frequently praise the car's smooth ride and technology integration, particularly with features like lane keeping assist and a clear rear view camera. Many appreciate the build quality and stylish design across various model years. Incredibly reliable, did just fine in the snow with proper tires, highway autopilot was a great feature.

I bought this car in 2010 after reasearching all other alternatives. Even now, given the fuel economy, price, exterior and interior looks of the vehicle it still blows everything else out of the water. There are small downsides like hard seats and less sound deadening materials; but, it's not a luxury car. It does what it's built for. Build quality is excellent and so is the integrity of all the parts it's made of. I have had no costs associated with the replacement of parts that are not related to maintenance. Maintenance intervals are huge and cost much less than typical cars. The look and feel of the car has put it over the top for me. Compared to the only other hybrid that gets this kind of fuel economy (Prius and Prius C) this car provides the perfect amount of space for my family (Prius C does not) and the interior beats the Prius any day. The layout of the car is more conventional and you are connected to the drive components for that real car feel.

Love the Insight. Watching mileage increase helps me adjust my foot on the gas. :)> Acceleration, braking and handling are very responsive. Time will tell if the mileage is as good as advertised. So far, it's great.

There is a lot of road noise on the freeway. It has an excellent turning radius. The gas mileage is amazing! The batteries that were originally put in go dead, but Honda replaces them under warranty. The interior is skimpy to save on the weight, but not having all the extra stuff is nice. The outside takes some getting used to with the wheel skirts, but I have come to like it. Overall it is a joy to drive and I look forward to getting every time.

Why it stands out
The redesigned 2019 Honda Insight stands out by moving away from the quirky hybrid formulas that defined earlier versions and adopting a traditional four-door sedan design. It also offers plenty of interior and trunk space, which makes it easier to view as a practical everyday car rather than a niche hybrid experiment. Honda’s own comparison point is telling: the 2019 Insight is described as more attractive than the Civic on which it is based.
That combination of practicality and style is what gives the 2019 Insight its appeal. It is positioned as a compact hybrid for buyers who want an affordable, efficient car without giving up the usefulness of a sedan. The main limitation implied by the source is that its appeal is rooted in being sensible and conventional, so it is less about novelty and more about delivering the hybrid recipe in a straightforward package.
