(809 reviews)Likes: --Beautiful interior/exterior design --smooth auto transmission --great visibility --Wildly exciting acceleration --great sounding Camaro exhaust --fun to drive --cool, folding rear seats Dislikes: --lots of engine, suspension problems, mostly due to misuse, lack of care by previous owner.
Owned the car for the last 21 years.Rebuilt engine, transmission, interior, suspension, steering, air-conditioner, cooling system, drivetrain, trunk, exterior chrome, brake system - too many new parts to list. With newer style radial tires it drives and handles better than new -very tight steering and road feel.
I bought it with 87K original miles on it from a little old lady (no, really) in 1998. Since then I have completely restored it and put another 55K miles on it. It has won 25 awards for excellence at various car shows and has been featured in a newspaper article as well as serving as a prop in a San Francisco Brides magazine pictorial (the bride and groom's getaway car) and being one of the month cars in a 2011 Mustang calendar. IMHO, this is the last of the first generation Mustangs that still looked like the original Mustang concept. The front end still has the deep set headlights in the front fender extensions characteristic of the breed, and the car still shares the same wheel base and floor pan with the original 1965 Mustang. In April, 2009 we took it on a caravan with Mustangs Across America from home (Fremont, CA then) to Birmingham, AL for the 45th anniversary of the introduction of the Mustang put on by the MCA (Mustang Club of America). The car did the whole 5,200 mile trip without a mechanical problem. We did get caught in a wind downburst on the way home east if Rawlins, WY, however, that sandblasted my poor baby and required about $7K in paint, chrome, stainless and glass. It also survived a snow storm in central Nevada on that trip that had us running in heavy white stuff from Battle Mountain, NV to Reno. The first photo is just before the sandblasting and the third photo is when it was repainted as a result. The car had zero rust when they stripped it to bare metal. It's a great car.
This 1966 Shelby Cobra handles great, is very fast and easy to steer, has no squeeks or rattles. A smooth riding car. The interior and exterior are in mint condition. The car is garage kept, has great gas mileage, low maintenance and is a really fun car to drive.
1965 Mustang 2+2 GT Fastback; Numbers matching "A" Code 289, pony interior, rally pac, GT Wheels, restored in 2003.
