The Audi Q5, a compact luxury crossover, was last redesigned in 2018. It moves into 2020 with some light updates. It competes with the BMW X3, INFINITI QX50, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Volvo XC60.
The Q5 comes exclusively with Audi’s 45 TFSI engine, which is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It’s good for 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to get you to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. The brand’s Quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system comes standard, as does a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). Fuel-economy ratings stand at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined with premium fuel. The Q5 offers 25.1 cubic feet of cargo space. With the second-row seats folded, cargo capacity increases to 53.1 cubic feet.
Audi splits the Q5 into Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. The Premium trim comes standard with 18-inch wheels, Audi’s smartphone interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED lighting, and keyless access and entry. The Premium Plus trim adds full LED headlights, a full LCD instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof. Finally, the Prestige trim comes with a power-adjustable steering column, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a head-up display (HUD).
Every Q5 comes with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking. The Premium Plus trim and above come with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and vehicle-exit assist. The available Driver Assistance Package, now offered at the Premium Plus trim, comes with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and active lane assist. The Q5 earned mostly Good crash-testing ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2019.
The Audi Q5 holds its own in the luxury segment, with plenty of tech, comfort, and good looks.
