2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

The Jeep Wrangler traces its roots back to military use, but it has evolved as the needs of motorists have changed. Yet it never betrays its rugged construction and off-road capability. Part of that evolution to accommodate drivers’ needs is the Wrangler Unlimited. Since the Wrangler was all-new for 2018, it carries over for 2019 with a few changes, like adding adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance to the Advanced Safety Group along with adding the color “Bikini” to its palette.
Standard trims for the Wrangler Unlimited include Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Jeep also offers a limited-edition Moab trim. All versions come standard with a retractable cloth top also featuring removable panels for the rear and side rear windows. With those panels out, the Wrangler Unlimited can cruise in “safari mode,” but if you want to let more sun in, a quick-release latch allows the top to seamlessly fold into the rear area.
The Sport keeps things utilitarian with manual windows and locks, but it does have a standard Dana solid front end, Dana 44 heavy duty solid rear axle, trailer-sway control, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-season SUV tires.
The S adds push-button start, LED interior lighting, Bluetooth, and a USB port. It comes with Jeep’s Uconnect 3 infotainment system with a 5-inch display. Moving to the Sport S adds remote keyless entry, tinted windows, power windows and locks, and power heated mirrors. The Sahara trim adds a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen, SiriusXM satellite radio, an additional USB port for the rear seats, and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.
The Rubicon is the top of the mountain when it comes to Jeep and off-roading. It has a more off-road-friendly 4.10:1 axle ratio, Dana 44 front and rear axles, electronically locking front and rear differentials, and an electronically disconnecting sway bar.
The base engine across the Wrangler Unlimited lineup is the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6. It makes 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, sent through either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.
Any trim can also be selected with the available 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It makes 270 hp and 295 lb-ft, sent through the 8-speed automatic. With both engines, power is routed to 4-wheel drive (4WD), but as is expected with Jeep, numerous 4WD and power-management systems are available. The standard setup in the Sport, Sport S, and Sahara is the Command-Trac shift-on-the-fly 4WD system with low range.
The Sahara comes standard with Command-Trac, but provides the option of the Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system. As expected, the 4-cylinder turbo with eTorque mild-hybrid technology is the most efficient option, returning 22 mpg city, 24 highway, 22 combined. The V6 with the 8-speed automatic returns 18, 23, 20. With the 6-speed manual, this engine returns fuel economy of 17, 23, 19.
Standard safety features on the Wrangler Unlimited include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a tire-pressure-monitoring system, electronic stability control and roll mitigation, and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines.
The Wrangler Unlimited is available with a host of driver-assistance features. The Active Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are both options on the Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon trims, but not available on the base Sport. The former adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and LED taillights, while the latter adds adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning.
The Wrangler Unlimited offers a long list of options for Wrangler fans looking for more space.

Review
by chrisWithin 5 minutes behind the wheel I loved this jeep. We previously had a 2017 Wrangler Unlimited JK and it was hindered by the transmission and comfort. We traded it in for a 2020 Grand Cherokee because of its comfort, engine and transmission. Imagine my surprise when i drove the JL and it reminded me a lot of the Grand Cherokee. Definately a g... -
