The '74 Toyota Hilux was a butt-ugly machine, even by the rediculous standards of 1974. The cab was very small, and it was a bit of a rust magnet, but that's where the bashing stops. This little truck was fast, with an 18R and 5-speed. A good set of tires and tie rods, and this $600 used truck was actually quite a good ride. The body was stiff, and solid. The panel behind the dash was easy to access when I installed the stereo. The seats were good, compared to other small trucks in this era.

This truck was great. It had no window, but if you shook the door, you could hear the glass inside. I lost the key and had to hotwire it everyday. The bed was rusted out because we got it free from a pool company and their chemicals spilled all over. My surfboard flew out of the bed while going 65 down Hwy 1 in California once.
