2026 Dodge Charger: Price, Specs and Release Date

by Chris Teague

Dodge discontinued the ultra-popular Charger and Challenger before replacing both with a new electric version of the Charger. The automaker quickly realized buyers wanted gas power, so for 2026 the car gains a SIXPACK variant with an inline-six-cylinder engine. The electric Charger remains on sale under the Daytona nameplate.

2026 Dodge Charger Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2026 Dodge Charger

The Charger gained a gas engine for 2026, which makes 550 horsepower. The move did not revive the Hemi and Hellcat V8s that made the cars so popular, but the new six-cylinder engine offers massive power and torque.

Design

The gas Charger shares most of its styling elements with the EV that preceded it. It features a long hood and a swept-back roofline with a large hatch at the rear. Dodge offers a range of bright, flashy colours, and the car is available with a few wheel options, depending on the package and configuration.

Powertrain

Dodge offers regular and high-output versions of the Charger for 2026 in the U.S. While Canadian specs have not been announced as of this writing, we expect them to be very similar. The Charger R/T comes with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six, making 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque, while the Scat Pack boosts that engine to 550 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. Dodge claims a 3.9-second zero to 96 km/h time for the Scat Pack and said it offers a 12.2-second quarter-mile time. The car also comes with a range of selectable drive modes, a pistol grip shifter, a performance steering wheel, and performance gauge cluster displays.

2026 Dodge Charger Preview - interior

Interior

The new gas-powered Charger’s interior takes inspiration from the 1960s cars that helped start the muscle car revolution. It features Charger badging and cloth upholstery with synthetic leather trim as standard. Synthetic or genuine leathers are available, along with heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. The rear cargo hatch affords a good amount of space, with roughly 1,050 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.

Technology

The Charger comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. The system runs the latest Uconnect infotainment system, one of the most feature-rich and easiest-to-use in the industry. Other standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more. Dodge also offers 64-colour ambient interior lighting and other unique interior lighting options.

Safety

Crash-test scores are not yet available for the 2026 Charger, but it comes with a good number of standard safety features in the U.S., and we expect the list to be very similar for Canada. These should include automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and more. A head-up display and a surround-view camera system will be available.
