The compact SUV segment is the hottest in Canada, and automakers need to give it plenty of attention to remain competitive. For its part, Chevrolet has fully redesigned its competitor to the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, the Chevrolet Equinox. As it enters its fourth generation, the Chevy Equinox sees a top-down modernization of its style, technology, safety features, and more.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox styling
One of the most important elements of the Equinox’s redesign is a rework of its exterior elements. The new version looks much more truck-like and in line with the rest of Chevrolet’s SUV line-up. In its way, the Equinox looks like someone took a shrink ray to the also-new Chevrolet Traverse, which we see as a good thing.
The new trim in town is the Activ, which gets off-road inspired styling to contrast with the sportier and more urban RS trim. These share the top rung on the trim ladder, with the LT being the new entry-level. The Active trim comes with a unique front fascia, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, and an available two-tone paint job with a white roof.

The Equinox’s cabin has seen significant upgrades with the new generation. It looks much more refined than the previous version. Ventilated front seats and heated outboard rear seats available, which is not a given in this segment. The only decision we question is moving the gear selector off the centre console and onto a stalk on the steering column. This does free up a lot of space in the middle of the front row and gives the Equinox a more truck-like drive feel. However, it could prove to be awkward and in the way in everyday driving.
Chevrolet has added a pair of screens inside the Equinox, both of which are standard. An 11-inch digital instrument cluster is mounted behind the steering wheel, and an 11.3-inch infotainment screen sits to the right of it. This system operates on Google Built-in, which means Google Assistant, Google Maps, and other apps available for download via Google Play are fully integrated. You may have heard that General Motors is planning to drop smartphone mirroring apps, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both still present here.
With the rear seats upright, the Equinox offers 845 litres of cargo capacity with another 30 litres available below the load floor. Fold them down, and that space expands to 1,799 litres. This is in line with the previous-generation Equinox but below average for the segment.
2025 Chevrolet Equinox engines and drive
One thing that has not changed in the Chevrolet Equinox is the engine. The 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder carries over with minor tweaks for the new transmission options replacing the outdated six-speed automatic. This engine creates 175 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque when paired with the CVT, which is now the default transmission with front-wheel drive (FWD). With all-wheel drive (AWD)—which remains selectable into the fourth generation—an eight-speed automatic is added, and torque rises to 203 lb-ft.
Opt for FWD, and your towing capacity is limited to 363 kilograms (900 pounds). With AWD, the Equinox’s tow rating increases to 680 kilograms (1,500 pound).
On the 2025 Equinox, more safety features are standard equipment. This includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind zone steering alert, rear cross traffic braking, intersection automatic emergency braking, GM’s Safety Alert Seat, and a rear seat reminder.
Where is the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox built?
Formerly, the Chevrolet Equinox was built at GM’s CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. That plant has since been retooled and is now building BrightDrop electric cargo vans. Production of the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox will be based at GM’s San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.
