my 96 Sunfire will not always start

My 96 Sunfire will not always start.  It cranks and sounds like it wants to but
wont... If I let it sit a few hrs it will start right up.......but the head lights blink
while its starting.....  it will run till i stop........then wont start till i let it sit a while.
I had a new fuel line put on a few  months ago  The mechanic said he thinks
its electrical.........  any guesses?   Thanks, Nadine
