can I replace a standard shifter for a Short throw shfter?

Has anyone ever replaced the OEM shifter for a short throw shifter on a 2001 pontiac sunfire? I just found out its a thing and im curious to see if anyone eles has done it and how labor intensive it was ?

Unfortunately I crashed before I could get it done. Deer in the road = car-b-gone
