Dealership markups on new, popular vehicles over MSSRP

Asked by BarneyRubble1 Jul 30, 2020 at 08:36 AM about the 2021 Hyundai Palisade Preferred AWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I’m looking at a 2021 Hyundai Palisade Ultimate, in Moonlight Cloud exterior
and Grey Napa Leather interior.  The dealership in Kingston has told me they
have ordered it but don’t know the price yet to tell me.  I’ve heard rumours that
dealers add as much as $3,000. on the MSSRP.  Does this happen and what
recourse do I have.  I’m paying cash with no trade.  Thanks

well, yes that's par for course. if you don't trade what you have you get sucked in to their game. Kind of like devils advocate. If you don't play their game, they go out of business. I NEVER feel bad when I see a d ship go under. They take your trade in and you tell you that you get a better deal but then they cash in on your ride ( and probably get more than what you got on the deal). I've bought 8 cars and owned them and not one was through a d ship. Here in Utah we have a HUGE classified called K S L. check out the cars on that. Maybe even buy through Brashers Auto ( branch here in Salt Lake and sacramento). good luck

another thing... when you pay with cash, it doesn't help your credit score. Unfortunately we really cannot depend on our employers enough to where we can trust ourselves to make that payment. What's SAD is that some d ships steal from themselves to claim a tax right off. Some get caught, some don't.

It happens daily often when the vehicle you want is in demand, so the dealers can increase the prices. Find a model vehicle that no one wants to get a deal. The Kia Telluride is going through the same thing. Don't buy one of these vehicles if you want to sell or trade in a few years, the don't hold their value.

I would never pay over MSRP. Wait a year for the initial rush to subside and they will probably sell you one under MSRP.

Don't EVER get in a hurry to buy a new car and NEVER violate your own standards. God gave you legs to WALK away on if it's not right. Don't hesitate to do that. There will always be tomorrow.
