I have a 2004 Olds Alero automatic transmission, 3.4 V6 in which none of the forward gears work.  Reverse works, ie the car moves in reverse but will not move in any of the forward gears even though the shifter moves to all positions.

I understand that the transmission no longer works but is it likely that it is something like shift solenoids or things that would be in a transmission solenoid kit or is it something that requires that the transmission be rebuilt. if it is likely the former, I will consider replacing the parts myself. If it is likely the latter, I will consider a used or rebuilt transmission. I just need information to support a decision. Thanks
