Different model of replacement starter

Asked by Fordranger1997 May 13, 2014 at 12:33 PM about the 1997 Ford Ranger XL Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm replacing the starter in my 1997 ranger ( manual trans, 4.0l ) and when purchasing
was informed there are two different styles of starters, and I didn't know which style my
truck requires. I bought what the parts counter had, a "spade style" starter. Will this work
in my truck and how can I tell.

The best way i found to get the correct one is to remove the old one and take it with you.If that is not possible, try to get the numbers off the old one.
