97 Ford Mustang

Asked by Powellb37 Feb 12, 2018 at 06:55 AM about the 1997 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 Ford Mustang Coupe 5 speed. Its hard
going into gears. It grinds in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and
reverse so I have to double clutch it. Someone said
its the syncrinisors in the transmission. My friend
has a 97 Ford Mustang Gt he took motor and trans
out of. I was wondering if his trans would work for
my car since his motor was a 4.6L v8 and mine is a
3.8 v6. And could it be the transmission failing in
my car? Can someone please let me know. Thank
you...

sounds like the clutch isn't dis engaging for what ever reason and you'r pounding it into gear , the tranny is probably destroyed or close to it at this point

it's a hydraulic clutch try bleeding it out , there's only a handful of people that even know what double clutching actually is

It's not a hydraulic clutch , It's operated by a cable / it's what they call a pull clutch !!! it sound to me as if the pilot bearing is bad and /or the input shaft is worn , Sad to say the only way to confirm this is to remove the tranny , so you may as well buy the complete clutch kit plus replace the clutch cable
